On the 21st of September, both TY classes, Ms.D'Arcy and Ms.Doherty went to the Ploughing Championships in Screggan near Tullamore Co.Offaly. We departed the school by bus at seven on the dot in the morning to avoid any heavy traffic. We arrived at the Ploughing at half eight and were given our tickets just before we got off the bus.
We all divided up into small groups and started to head around all the different stalls. We saw all different things at the Ploughing like different models of John Deere tractors, farm machinery and we also caught a glimpse of the ploughing itself. There was a thing called tractor football where two tractors were in a sectioned off field and had their forks on and was "kicking" a huge inflatable football around the field with the forks. It was so much fun to watch!
We then went to the O'Neills shop and got some county gear. After that we went to a Galway hurler, Joe Canning's stall and I bought one of his hurleys. I also got the pleasure of meeting Joe himself, he signed my hurley and I got a picture with him also! We then went and got food at a Supermacs stall and kept going. By that stage we had an hour left as we were meeting back at the bus for two o'clock.
We walked around some more stalls and met Dáithí Ó Sé in the Lidl tent and tasted some free samples. We then walked up and looked at the funfair that was on, but we had no time to go in it as we had to meet back at the bus.
By the time we got out onto the main road it was three o'clock and it just started to lash, so we were lucky in that way that we went when we did!
My favourite thing that I did at the Ploughing Championships was meeting Joe Canning because I look up to him as a hurler as he is one of the top hurlers in the country! My least favourite thing was the amount of time that we were given at the Ploughing, because there was a lot to get around in very little time.
Overall I really did enjoy myself immensely at the Ploughing Championships 2016 and I cant wait to go next year!
