On the 21st of September 201, we went to the Ploughing Championships. This took place in Co. Offaly. The whole the TY group were there with Ms Doherty and Ms D'Arcy. In small groups we walked around all of the stalls. We went into some of the shops and went to the food stalls. We then went to the carnival and went on a few of the rides.
At 1:30pm we made our way back to the bus for two o'clock. As the place was so big, we got lost on the way back to the bu. We found our way back to the bus on time but other students got lost and were late!! From this trip the whole year group learned to get back to the bus on time for future trips!! by Lauren Malone The Ploughing Championships this year were based in Tullamore, Co Offaly. The day started off when we left the school at 7am. The bus journey took us two hours to get to our destination. We got our entrance tickets on the bus. We all separated and had a meeting point for when it was time to go.
First of all me and my friends went to the stalls and looked around. There were stalls everywhere including and there was a wide variety of types of stalls including Aldi, Lidl, Eir, Eddie Rockets and people selling different types fo farm products. It was very interesting to see all the farming culture. There was also a carnival which I spent most of my time at. It wasn't cheap I can tell you!! We then went to look at the tractor football, it was great craic! After that we went for food and had pizza from a Papa John's stall. It was so crowded and so big that it wasn't easy to find your way around it. We then all went back to the bus, which was a disaster to find! But eventually we got home. The Ploughing was a great experience and I hope to go back again next year. by Kelly Williams. On Wednesday the 21th of September 2016 we went to the 85th National Ploughing Championships which took place at Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly. The National Ploughing Championships is Europe´s largest outdoor exhibition and agricultural trade show. We left school at 7.00 am and we arrived around 9.00 am. When we got off the bus there was a large number of people waiting to enter the show area. When we got inside I was surprise at the scale of the exhibition. There was a lot of roadways between all the trade stands and exhibitors. My friends and I went from one place to another. We saw a lot of different breeds of cattle and sheep- My favourite was the cattle, especially the red ones- we saw tractors, we saw ploughing, we got lots of free food and we took photos of everything including ourselves. At midday we went to the fairground where we went on some rides. After we had lunch we continued watching exhibitors until it was time for us to leave. I was so tired from all the walking I did that day. I really recommend this trip for anyone, even if you are not from a farming background. The Ploughing Championship´s Day was an amazing day. I had so much fun with my friends. I´m never going to forget this day. by Paula Rubio On the 21st of September we went on an educational day trip to the Ploughing Match in Tullamore. We left Navan at 7am and arrived at there at around 10. When we arrived we had to get our wristbands and then we went off in our groups. We went to many different places such as O'Neill's where they sell loads of different county jerseys, RTE and we got to see many different animals and machinery. As you were looking at the animals we got to learn about them too. With the cows we got to learn the many different types of cows there is. When we were looking at the machinery we got to learn what each machine was used for, for example the plough and the harvester. We also came across Gerry Adams and we got to talk to him and some people got in pictures with him. After all that we then went to the food stalls to get food. Some stalls were extremely dear but we found a pizza one that had reasonable prices. After we ate we went to the carnival and went on a few rides. Some rides were also extremely dear but again there was a few that were reasonable prices. One ride was 10 euro but the majority of them were around 4 euro. We spent a lot of our time at the carnival going on rides and talking to other people from other schools. We left the carnival a bit early to get to the bus on time and it's a good thing we did because it was extremely hard to find but we got there on time. We were meant to leave at around 2 but due to a few people getting lost we were a bit late leaving. In the end everyone was found safely and we left at around 3:45 and arrived back in Navan at 5pm. The weather stayed good for us up until the end and my legs were in bits from all the walking but it was a really good day all the same.
Mairéad McFadden On the 21st of September we went to the Ploughing Championships. We looked at all the stalls there. We also went to the carnival and went on different rides. It was a lot of fun. There was over 11,000 people at the Ploughing Championships that day. There were different types of animals there like cows, sheep, chickens etc. Everyone really enjoyed it. I would definitely go back next year.
by Niamh Gaffney We went to the ploughing championships on the 21st of September in Tullamore Offaly. It was a great T.Y trip and I enjoyed it.
We learnt loads about multiple different topics. We learnt about ploughing and sheepdog trials. My favourite stall was the Aldi stall. I liked they way it was laid out like a little street. There were also lots of food samples in the Aldi stall. I also really liked the Carnival. I had a great time on the rides even though it was very expensive. The tractor football was very good as well. It was frightening to look at though because i thought they were going to crash on several occasions. On our way back to the bus we got lost and had to study many maps until we finally found our way back. However we were not the only ones who got lost. I really enjoyed the Ploughing Championships. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. By Sarah Clarke I attended the ploughing championships on the 14th of September . The ploughing took place in Tullamore in County Offaly. We had to meet at the school for 6.50 and we left at 7 .Ms Doherty and Ms Darcy came with us. We arrived in Tullamore at 10 0 clock . We went to the ploughing matches for an educational day trip and to help come up with ideas for mini companies. There was 111,000 people there on the day we went. It was extremely packed and hard to remember where to go. There was a large amount of other schools there and a lot of people our age. We all had to stay in a group of at least 4 so we walked around looking at stalls such as Tesco, RTE, Eir and we also went into the O'Neill's shop. We then went to the carnival where there was loads of different rides we could go on. I feel like the rides didn't last long enough for the money paid. Also , I found that the people working in the carnival were very impatient and unfriendly. After the carnival, we went to get food. Some of the food was very expensive so me and Kelly decided to split money for a pizza so we would have money left over in case we wanted to buy something. We had to be on the bus for 2 o clock so we made our way back to the bus at 1.40 to ensure we had plenty of time spare in case we got lost. We didn't leave until about 3 o clock as someone got lost. We came back to school at 5 o clock . I enjoyed every part of the ploughing championships and would 100% go again.
By Katie Geraghty On Wednesday 21st September, the TY classes travel to Offaly to the 2016 Ploughing Championships, and it was definitely an enjoyable day for everyone. Even though going required us to get up earlier than we would've liked, it was worth it. When we reach the site, we all took off immediately to admire the stalls. The funfair was definitely a favourite place to go, as were the hundreds of food stalls. The tractors playing football was something nobody had seen before, and the virtual reality glasses were also very interesting. At the end of the day we all were glad we went and ready to just fall asleep!
