On Thursday the 21st of February, a debate took place in St Patrick’s Classical School, Navan. This was the second debate of the year in which the three schools -Mercy, Loreto and Pats- all took part.
Three Mercy girls, three Loreto girls and four Pats boys made up two teams. These teams were debating the motion “The leaders of 1916 would be happy with Ireland in 2016.” The proposition was made up of Eleanor Moloney (Mercy), Luke Moran and James McCabe (Pats) and Emily Muldoon and Arianna Owens (Loreto). The opposition consisted of Muireann Corkery and Hannah Cooke (Mercy), Tom Phillips and Cian Hoey (Pats) and Laura Barrett (Loreto).
The debate was extremely interesting, with both teams making very strong and well-reasoned arguments. However, in the end, the proposition were the winners. This debate was an excellent opportunity for the Transition Year students of all three schools to get to know each other.
