We went to Newgrange Lodge for our introduction trip to TY. It is located in the heart of the Boyne Valley beside Newgrange Passage Tomb. We stayed there for 1 night. The entire TY group attended the Introduction trip. We were accompanied by two teachers Ms.Doherty and Ms. Darcy.
Upon arriving at the lodge we were greeted by the friendly staff. After dropping off our bags we were split into three groups. The group I was in went off kayaking first. We had to put on wetsuits first before we set of to go kayaking in the Boyne. The kayaks were two seaters. We played games with our instructors and our fellow class mates. I capsized twice. This was my favourite activity of all. When we were finished we got changed back into our clothes and we had lunch.
We then went rock climbing which was great fun. There were four different options that could be climbed up: Easy, a bit harder, difficult and very hard. The groups were then swapped around. My group went team building which helped us to get to know each other better. We then done an obstacle course. Around half four we were given rooms and had showers. Later on in the evening dinner was served. That evening a movie was put on 'Street Dance' and we were given really nice ice-cream for dessert.
The following morning after breakfast we all checked out. We were then split into new groups. The activities for the day were paintball shooting, bolder climbing, teambuilding and survival skills. We then left Newrange lodge after all the activities were over and we headed home to Navan.
There were many benefits from this trip such as making new friends, learning more about other people in my class and experiencing news sports such as kayaking and rock climbing. I really enjoyed the induction trip and it was a great way to enter TY. - Clara McAteer.
